Rutherglen Links

 

A new office and commercial district has been created on what was a previously derelict five hectare site in the heart of Rutherglen.

 

Rutherglen Links is bounded by Farmeloan Road and Cambuslang Road and is just a three-minute walk from the train station. Much of the site consists of land that had been occupied by the former Monogram bedding and pillow manufacturing factory which closed back in 2007. The £9 million redevelopment costs have been met by a combination of shovel ready funding from the Scottish Government and £2.5million grant support from the European Regional Development Fund.

 

The first completed building was a three-storey office block – One Rutherglen Links – and the top floors are now the Scottish Headquarters of SPIE UK, one of the country’s leading providers of energy, safety and environmentally focused solutions across multi-technical and support services.  SPIE UK employ more than 3500 people with Rutherglen Links being home to 150 of them.

 

Harris Finance, a locally based developer, has invested £2.5 million in the construction of two industrial/hybrid units at Rutherglen Links that, when occupied, could bring up to 55 jobs to the area.

 

The various phases of construction at Rutherglen Links brought a whole range of spin-offs for the local community including jobs and training together with almost £25,000 of physical improvements and support for local activities in the Burnhill area of the burgh.
