ALAN CUNNINGHAM (Business Support)

Alan has over 20 years experience working in economic regeneration and business development, with an emphasis on providing tailored support & assistance to local companies. Most recently, he has worked with South Lanarkshire Council & Glasgow City Council to safeguard jobs within those businesses affected by the M74 Project

 

Prior to this Alan worked with the Local Economic Development Company (LEDC) Network in Glasgow providing business & training advice as well generating new jobs for local people. He also has many years experience managing his own businesses.

 

Alan is on secondment from Glasgow City Council to assist people & companies adversely affected by development activities, His role is to provide business support for companies, thus allowing them to create a sustainable business base with well located, modern premises that are attractive to owners, employees and trading partners.

ALISON BROWN (Project Manager)

Alison has over 18 years experience in local government with the former Glasgow District Council, South Lanarkshire Council and most recently East Ayrshire Council.  She has a broad range of experience including local plan and masterplan preparation, project management, development management, policy and external funding.

 

Alison spent more than 10 years at South Lanarkshire working on projects such as Rutherglen streetscape, Farme Cross environmental project, the award winning Rutherglen Town Hall restoration and Rutherglen East Parish Church (now ASPIRE Business Centre).  Within East Ayrshire, Alison led on the Council’s Developer Contribution Strategy, Affordable Housing Policy and external funding.

 

Since joining Clyde Gateway, Alison has managed projects that will deliver improvements to the access at Rutherglen Station and to the Tullis Street/Abercromby Street Cemeteries in Bridgeton and will lead on emerging projects across all the communities, particularly in the South Dalmarnock area.    

ALISON BROWN
 

ANGELA McGRAW (Office Manager)

Angela has been part of Clyde Gateway since 2005, initially on secondment from Glasgow City Council, before being appointed to her current post in December 2008. Her 16 year-spell with the Council saw her involved with a wide range of administrative roles, primarily in the area of grants and loans to small businesses. During her secondment, she had responsibility for all clerical/administrative tasks, including liaising with all the council departments and outside organisations involved in establishing the Gateway offices at Bridgeton Cross.

 

Angela’s principal role is to support the Finance Manager in the day-to-day control of income and expenditure budgets for Clyde Gateway URC and Clyde Gateway Developments Limited. In addition, she manages the office administration support resources, and supervises the on-job training of the Apprentice Administrator.

ANGELA ROWLEY (Project Manager)

Angela is seconded to Clyde Gateway from South Lanarkshire Council Regeneration Services until March 2011. She has previously been employed both in the private and public sectors and has been working on large scale urban regeneration initiatives on behalf of SLC since 1995.

 

Her main role has been to establish and develop strategic partnerships for commercial property, regeneration and development projects with the private sector and other public agencies and has delivered a portfolio of complex multi agency property development and regeneration projects and private/public sector capital projects including the £250m ‘Hamilton Ahead’ Initiative and £400m East Kilbride Town Centre Masterplan and £12m Cambuslang Town Centre redevelopment.

 

Within Clyde Gateway, Angela has responsibility for a wide range of issues including acquisitions and relocations as well as lead responsibility for remediation.

AUDREY CARLIN (Project Manager)

Audrey joined Clyde Gateway in October 2008 following 6 years with the Clydebank re-built Urban Regeneration Company as Planning Manager.

 

Audrey has over 15 years experience of working in regeneration across the West of Scotland. A qualified Chartered Town Planner, Audrey held positions with Renfrew Council, Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Alliance before moving to Clydebank re-built Urban Regeneration Company in 2002 as Planning Manger, a role in which she delivered a series of award winning public realm and construction projects.

 

She joined Clyde Gateway in October 2008 and is responsible for developing and delivering emerging projects, including a series of environmental improvement initiatives, redevelopment feasibility assessments and property acquisitions, with an initial focus on the Bridgeton area, including public realm and environmental improvements to Bridgeton Cross. Audrey will also lead on proposals for the development of the Olympia Building.

AUDREY CARLIN
 

BARRY MACINTYRE (Executive Director of Resources)

Barry started his career by training and qualifying as a chartered accountant in Glasgow during the early 1980s before moving down south to work for Lloyd’s of London. In 1989 he returned north of the border to work firstly for the Scottish Development Agency and then for Scottish Enterprise. Barry rose to the position of Senior Director of Finance & Corporate Services at Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire, where his remit covered a range of support and advisory services including finance, European funding, human resources, procurement, internal audit and company secretarial work. Barry was also responsible for development finance and equity investment and was a director of several operational subsidiaries and joint venture companies.

 

Barry joined Clyde Gateway in January 2009 as Executive Director of Resources and his main areas of responsibility are to ensure the Company’s finances, structures and governance are fit for purpose and exemplary in the field, and that Clyde Gateway leads the way in effective and innovative use of development finance and asset-backed vehicles to secure development and community benefits.

BARRY MACINTYRE
 

BILL DEVLIN (Project Manager – Engineering & Technical))

Prior to joining Clyde Gateway in August 2009, Bill had spent more than three decades working in an engineering and project management capacity in both the public and private sectors.

 

Much of his early career was spent in the railway industry, where he specialized in bridge engineering, including a spell in the 1980s as the engineer for the historic and iconic Forth Rail Bridge. He was part of Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire for seventeen years, and Greenock Waterfront and Loch Lomond Shores are among the high-profile infrastructure projects that he had key responsibility for.

 

Bill’s specific tasks at Clyde Gateway are spread across a range of areas, including overseeing activities by professional design teams, consultants and contractors, as well as taking a lead role in land remediation and decontamination.

BILL DEVLIN
 

DEBBIE McNAMARA (Special Advisor)

Debbie joined Clyde Gateway in mid January 2009 having spent 14 years working for the real estate company Lend Lease.  Having moved to the UK 11 years ago from Australia she has lived in Glasgow for the past 6 years.

 

During her time with Lend Lease, Debbie worked on numerous large-scale retail, commercial and education projects.  Her roles have varied from project management responsible for design and construction delivery; asset management looking at operational business plans and longer term positioning; to development management responsible for development proposals, commercial viability, land assembly, planning, leasing and investor relations.  A key component in all of her roles has been the ability to build lasting partnership with authorities, tenants, investors and key business and community organisations.

 

Her specific responsibilities at Clyde Gateway will be to secure major property development, inward investment and relocation initiatives which will act as a catalyst for the wider and longer term regeneration of Clyde Gateway.

 

Debbie is also a Board Member of Glasgow Metropolitan College. 

DEBBIE McNAMARA
 

DONNA McDAID (Solicitor)

Donna is with Clyde Gateway on a secondment agreement from Burness Solicitors, having joined initially on a part-time basis in March 2009, before a full-time arrangement was put in place in September 2009.

 

An honours graduate in Scots Law from the University of Strathclyde and holder of a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow, Donna joined Burness in 2006, and has since worked in many aspects of law, including Corporate, Banking, Construction and Corporate Finance.

 

Donna has also provided legal support to Clydebank Rebuilt, another of the URCs in Scotland. Her role at Clyde Gateway is to provide help and advice to all members of the team, and to work closely with both of the Executive Director post holders in providing a wide range of legal advice, particularly in support of property and financial transactions.

GRAEME INGLIS (Project Manager)

Graeme is currently on secondment from South Lanarkshire Council until March 2011.

 

He has spent 28 years in local government within planning, economic development, and regeneration in East Kilbride, Falkirk and Hamilton prior to joining South Lanarkshire Council in 1996. During his time with SLC, Graeme has been an Economic Development Officer, a Development Projects Principal with responsibility for the team delivering capital projects, and since 2002 has been a Project Manager in the Physical Regeneration Team.

 

He has a wide range of responsibilities at Clyde Gateway, including acquisitions, relocations, remediation and an involvement in Services Infrastrucure, as well as leading on the development and implementation of the transportation strategy.

GRAEME INGLIS
 

IAN MANSON (Chief Executive)

Ian has more than 25 years public sector experience in planning, economic development, business growth, regeneration and public/private partnerships with a career that has taken him to Birmingham, North Lanarkshire and Glasgow, where he has been based since 1991.

 

He previously held a number of senior and key posts at Glasgow City Council, including those of Head of Corporate Policy and Senior Depute Director of Development & Regeneration, where he was in charge of physical planning, housing investment and community safety. Ian also enjoyed a two-year spell, from 2005-2007, as Chief Advisor to the Leader of the Council, Steven Purcell, during which the authority underwent radical reform in its governance and service delivery structures.

 

Appointed as Chief Executive of the URC in mid 2008, he has been responsible for overseeing the recruitment of all Gateway staff, whether permanent or secondment, the establishment of the Gateway Board and subsidiaries, the adoption of a 3-year operating plan and the progress of a range of initiatives that promote physical, social and economic regeneration across the Gateway communities.

JIM CLARK (Snr Manager, Communications & Company Systems)

Jim was appointed to Clyde Gateway in January 2009, following a 12-month period of secondment from Glasgow City Council.  His working life, since graduating from the University of Strathclyde in 1985, has been entirely in local government, with a variety of roles in administration, research, public relations/communications and elections.

 

Jim spent a total of 9 years in separate posts as an aide to the Lord Provost of Glasgow and the Leader of Glasgow City Council, and 3 years as the Media Manager at GCC.  In 2007, he undertook a four month secondment to Elections Ontario in Toronto to manage an audit of the organisational systems.

 

His specific responsibilities at Clyde Gateway include the Communications/PR/Marketing strategies, the development and implementation of stakeholder/community engagement, reputation management and assisting the Executive Director of Resources on a wide range of organisational issues, including the management of the business of the Clyde Gateway Board.

JOHN BINNING (Transport Advisor - on secondment from SPT)

John has been with the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) for 20 years and is currently the Team Leader in the Policy & Strategy Department, with responsibility for transport planning and strategy development.

 

John joined Clyde Gateway on a part-secondment in November 2009, and is currently engaged in the redevelopment proposals for Dalmarnock Station, the improvements to Rutherglen and Bridgeton stations as well as the wider transportation strategy for Clyde Gateway.  

JOHN BINNING
 

JOHN FLYNN (Business Support)

John is a born and bred East Ender who has been with Clyde Gateway since late 2007, on secondment from Glasgow City Council. Upon leaving school one Friday afternoon in 1980, he took up a career in banking the following Monday morning - his first branch being at Bridgeton Cross – later moving into financial services regulation.

 

In 1997 he began working in economic development, assisting start ups and growing businesses in the east end of Glasgow. From 2004 to 2007 he worked with the M74 Business relocation team assisting those companies affected by construction of the new road.

 

John’s role at Clyde Gateway is to continue working with the many firms required to relocate due to the construction of the East End Regeneration Route and other physical development within the area as well as assisting both incoming and existing firms with their plans for growing and improving business.

JOHN FLYNN
 

KEITH PENDER (Senior Manager, Property)

Keith was appointed to his current post in January 2009, but had spent the previous five years on secondment to the project from Glasgow City Council.

 

Upon graduation, Keith embarked on a career in Surveying with the private sector, but the bulk of his working life has been spent within local government during which he has had responsibility for the strategic management of land and been lead officer in the delivery of a major mixed-use project in Robroyston, retail projects in Pollok, Easterhoure and Toryglen, and housing projects in Oatlands, Garthamlock and various other locations across the city.

 

Within Clyde Gateway, Keith has already been involved in projects such as the M74, sites for Commonwealth Games facilities, Shawfield remediation work and other key infrastructure projects. He is the company’s lead officer on all property matters, including acquisitions and disposals.

KEITH PENDER
 

LESLEY ROONEY (Finance Manager)

A graduate of both Newcastle and Strathclyde Universities, Lesley has a wealth of private sector experience in the field of finance and accountancy.

 

She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, and has enjoyed 15 years post-qualification experience working as Finance Manager/Financial Controller in a variety of commercial companies, including a biotechnology spin out from Strathclyde University, an international forklift sales and service company, a market leading supplier of pipe and fittings to the construction industry and the leading Scottish independent waste management and recycling business.

 

Lesley will be working closely with the Executive Director of Resources in managing the Company’s finances, and ensuring that Clyde Gateway leads the way in effective and innovative use of development finance and asset-backed vehicles to secure development and community benefits.

LESLEY ROONEY
 

LOUISE McCORMACK (Admin Assistant)

Louise joined Clyde Gateway in September 2009 as part of the Commonwealth Apprenticeship scheme which guarantees a training place, with an employer, to every suitably qualified pupil leaving a Glasgow school in June 2009. This is Louise’s first experience of full-time employment.

 

Although she supports the activities of everyone in the Clyde Gateway team, Louise works very closely with the Office Manager who is responsible for providing the day-to-day job training and experience. Louise has lived all her life in the Bridgeton area.

LOUISE McCORMACK
 

MARK BELL (Property & Acquisitions Surveyor)

 

Mark joined Clyde Gateway in January 2010. Previous to this he was working as an Estates Manager with a number of blue-chip companies for some 12 years. His specific responsibilities included acquisition and disposals of properties in towns and cities all across the UK. 

 

His specific responsibilities at Clyde Gateway include the acquisition of strategic land for future development plus land which can be utilised for relocating businesses within the area. He will be actively involved in identifying potential future use for strategic sites and advising existing businesses on relocation options.

Mark Bell
 

MARTIN McKAY (Senior Manager, Development)

Martin is an experienced property and regeneration professional with 15 years involvement in leading and managing projects including complex, large scale, multi-agency projects.

 

As a qualified Architect, he began his career in private practice delivering projects for both private and public sector clients before joining the University of Glasgow where he led on Major Projects, as part of the Universities Capital Development Programme. He Joined Scottish Enterprise in 2005 working on Clyde Gateway from 2006 where, along with the partner team, he was responsible for development of the Business Plan and Operating Plan.

 

At Clyde Gateway Martin will lead on the development, management and delivery of strategic regeneration projects.

 

Martin was appointed as a board member of Architecture & Design Scotland in April 2010 and was President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects from 2008-2010.

MARTIN McKAY
 

MARTIN WATERS (Community Liaison Manager)

Martin joined Clyde Gateway as Community Liaison Manager in January 2010. He has more than 30 years of working in Glasgow primarily with City Housing services, much of which was at a senior level based in East End area, including the role of Project Manager where he was responsible for coordinating Glasgow’s proposal for the Athletes Village in Dalmarnock as part of the successful bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

 

Martin’s main focus in his new role will be to work with the families affected by relocation proposals as a result of the regeneration activities in South Dalmarnock over the coming years.

MICHELLE BARR (Admin Assistant)

A resident of Rutherglen, Michelle joined Clyde Gateway in February 2010 having previously worked in a temporary post within the Civil Service.

 

While Michelle works across all aspects of activities in the Clyde Gateway Team, she has a main role in assisting with finance and accounting, and works very closely with the Office Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day on-job training and experience.

MORAY STEWART (Property & Acquisitions Surveyor)

Moray was appointed to Clyde Gateway in December 2009. Previous to this he was working as a property advisor for GVA Grimley Ltd where he specialised as an Industrial Property agent.

 

Working for GVA Grimley, Moray gained experience on a variety of projects advising developers, investors, landlords and tenants on property acquisition and disposal throughout Scotland. Some of his main clients included MEPC Hillington Park, Paradigm, Chancerygate, Wolseley UK and Crown Paints.

 

His specific responsibilities at Clyde Gateway include the acquisition and disposal of strategic land and properties. He will be actively involved in identifying potential future use for strategic sites and advising existing businesses on relocation options.

NIKI SPENCE (Project Manager – Community Benefits)

Niki joined Clyde Gateway in June 2009 following 12 years working at an operational and strategic level in the areas of employability and regeneration.

 

A double graduate from Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities, Niki has an in-depth experience and knowledge of linking opportunity and need, thanks to her different roles with individuals and organisations in education, training, commerce, business and industry. One of her many achievements in a distinguished career is being a Founding Director and Vice-Chair of Routes to Work Ltd, which is now the largest Community Intermediary and employability organisation in North Lanarkshire.

 

Niki is responsible for developing policy and programmes to maximise community benefits associated with Clyde Gateway activities as well managing the various partnerships and joint ventures which will increase the jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities for local residents.

NIKI SPENCE
   

PAULINE McWHINNIE (PA to the Senior Management Team)

 

Pauline joined Clyde Gateway in June 2010 and provides secretarial and administrative support to the Chief Executive and the two Executive Directors.

 

She has more extensive experience in all aspects of PA duties and office administration, with her career spanning more than 25 years with three different Lanarkshire-based private sector companies.

 

Pauline also has the responsibility of planning and organising the weekly meetings of the Clyde Gateway Management Team, including the issuing of agendas and the production of minutes.

ROBERT TOMKINS (Business Support)

Robert was seconded to Clyde Gateway for 2 years in October 2008 from South Lanarkshire Council.

 

His career started in the private sector, during which time he has undertaken a variety of senior roles in physics and electronics engineering.

 

He moved to the public sector, spent 6 years working with Business Gateway as a business adviser and is now employed by South Lanarkshire Council as an Economic Development Officer.

 

His specific responsibilities at Clyde Gateway include advice and assistance on business relocation, in conjunction with advice on the general availability of general business information, loans and grants.

ROBERT TOMKINS
 

STEPHEN HOPE (Project Manager)

Stephen is on secondment to Clyde Gateway from Scottish Enterprise. An architect by profession, he worked in Glasgow, London, Manchester and Edinburgh before joining Scottish Enterprise in the early 1990’s, where he spent a number of years with Locate in Scotland and SE National thereafter.

 

His involvement with the URC dates back to 2001 and through his work on an initial appraisal study with James Barr). From that, SE, along with the two local authorities agreed to develop the project further, and this in turn led to the Ironside Farrar Development Framework, the Gensler Development Framework and, in due course, the Clyde Gateway Business Plan in 2005.

 

His specific responsibility at this point in time is delivery of the Business Park at London Road Site 1.

STEPHEN CRAIG
 

STEVE PRITCHARD (Executive Director of Development)

Steve has enjoyed a career within regeneration that spans more than 30 years in both the public and private sectors. The bulk of his career was spent with Associated British Ports, where, in addition to playing a key role in a multitude of redevelopment projects in Cardiff and Barry, he had responsibility for the management and development of an extensive property portfolio throughout South Wales.

 

In addition, he has held a number of prominent positions within the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the business community in South Wales.

 

Steve joined Clyde Gateway in January 2009, and has responsibility for the strategic implementation of the development plans of the URC.
