Rutherglen Railway Station

Following investment of over £2m, Rutherglen Station is the location of our largest physical improvements to date.

The proposal to carry out the work emerged following a workshop at Rutherglen Town Hall in June 2008, at which a range of environmental improvement options in the town were presented.

The strongest support was for improving access to the station and upgrading roads and pavement layouts on par with those delivered by South Lanarkshire Council on Main Street. Work was carried out on Castle Street, Green Road, Victoria Street and the station's car park.  Re-surfacing work was carried out, better lighting installed, trees planted and landscaping introduced. Public art in the space around the new Burgh Primary School was also provided.

Real Time train information at the station entrance and on Main Street were installed.

The improvements began in summer 2009, and were officially opened in April 2010 by Councillor Eddie McAvoy,  Leader of South Lanarkshire Council.
