New Roads and Rail Improvements
The transport infrastructure legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games is very noticeable across the Clyde Gateway area.
The five-mile extension to the M74, and construction of the East End Regeneration Route, make access easier to new venues and locations such as NISA/Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and the Athletes' Village. They also open-up a substantial number of development and investment opportunities, particularly in Dalmarnock and Shawfield.
Thanks to £10m-worth of improvements paid for by Clyde Gateway, Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and the European Regional Development Fund, Dalmarnock Station - the nearest rail halt to the 2014 facilities - will be made more attractive and user-friendly. As a result, we will benefit from a vastly-improved and modernised facility, a transport hub to local bus services, with the area around the station, and across to neighbouring Shawfield, immediately more attractive to investors.
We are also developing plans to build a new pedestrian bridge to span the Clyde between Dalmarnock and Shawfield.

It is being developed to create a new National Business District in Shawfield, and will provide quick access to and from the new transport hub around Dalmarnock Station. The bridge will half - to under 10 minutes - the walking time beween the station and Shawfield.
Work on the £4.75m bridge (which attracted £1.9m from the European Regional Development Fund) should begin in late 2012 and end in mid-2013.
