Does Clyde Gateway have anything to do with the 2014 Commonwealth Games?
A key early action has been helping local residents take advantage of emerging job and training opportunities. This has been achieved in a variety of ways, including using community benefit clauses in our construction contracts. We have worked closely with a range of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire partners to identify and equip residents. Our efforts secured employment and/or training for more than 600 residents during our first three and half years to March 2012
Examples:-
- support package for a local company, CCG, to offer recruitment, training and in-work assistance so that 30 (out of 50) new semi-skilled posts at their new factory in Cambuslang are filled by residents;
- 15 jobs created for young and adult apprentices with City Building;
- 20 jobs for local people as community sports coaches with Street League, an organisation transforming the life of disadvantaged youngsters through a structured football and education programme;
- Clyde Gateway Youth Jobs Fund, which supported 12 jobs in South Lanarkshire, has been expanded into Glasgow.
- a partnership with Glasgow Life to enable up to 40 young people being eligible to enter into a specially designed training programme, the completion of which will guarantee an interview a permanent post of Leisure Attendant at the new Commonwealth Arena.

Our training/employment expert is in constant contact with key employers to look for ways of delivering innovative support and specific programmes which will provide more jobs and training opportunities for unemployed residents.
