Working with Schools
Another of the key messages from our initial consultations back in 2008 was that Clyde Gateway had to get involved with local schools. We have done so in ways that are extensive, innovative and popular.
One example is the Active Schools programme with which we have had an involvement since 2010 that has enabled us to support thousands of pupils and their parents in ways that provide opportunities to participate in physical activity as well as getting involved in volunteering.
We provide additional support for learning, including exam preparation, and have teamed up with universities and employers to offer career support and advice including 10-week learning placements in engineering.
Pupils from Eastbank Academy were asked to design hoardings for the construction site of one of our new office developments while in 2013/14 we delivered ‘The Commonwealth Project’ which saw 360 pupils from South Lanarkshire enjoy different aspects of curriculum work linked to the Games and culminating in a morning of sport at the Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
A highly successful ‘Hotel and Hospitality Academy’ has allowed more than 40 pupils to enjoy extended work placements with a leading hotel in Glasgow with the guarantee of a job interview upon the successful completion of a training programme.
Clyde Gateway spends £100,000 every year supporting a range of projects within primary and secondary schools all of which are designed to promote activities inside and outside the classroom and make valuable contributions to the curriculum. Those pupils who were among the first beneficiaries of our involvement are now graduating from school into work or higher education with an acknowledgment that Clyde Gateway helped them on their journey.
