Malls
Mire

Construction work commenced in November 2020 to transform 16 hectares of vacant and derelict land at Toryglen into a woodland retreat to be known as ‘Malls Mire’ which will be a haven for activities, learning and wellbeing.

The long term planning and community involvement undertaken by Urban Roots saw the creation of a £3.3m development of open green space to include parkland, play areas, wetland, and woodlands.

The transfer of ownership of derelict land to Clyde Gateway enabled the development of detailed plans with the local community and Urban Roots resulting in significant funds being secured from Sustrans and NatureScot.

The park area boasts an outdoor gym, two play areas, open recreational space and a bike pump track.

The park area boasts an outdoor gym, two play areas, open recreational space and a bike pump track. The wetland area, which lies in the centre of the development, features a 3 metre wide lit path to greatly improve the quality and usability of the path network for cyclists and walkers. The nature reserve area, set within the Malls Mire woods includes an art trail and spaces for outdoor events, learning and performances.

Malls Mire opened to the public in Autumn 2021 and has been very well received by visitors so far.
